I was excited when have chance to test out some new features in Adobe Flash CS3, impressed by the clean interface and great integration between Adobe softwares.
Of course, as usual, I’m ready to explore the new features of Actionscript 3.0 (AS3), expecting can use on my in-plan RyanGiggs.cc website revamp. But, saddest thing happen, the implementation of AS3 is totally different from AS2, AS3 now is fully using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), which I have totally no idea how to use!!!
I tried to calm down myself by trying some simple AS2-style script in AS3, but soon i found out it’s totally cannot works at all! For a non-programmer-background Flash user like me, it is a big blow, a big shock that my hardwork-learning on AS2 is useless now, I have to start learning AS3 from zero… again…. Suddenly i felt like poured by a big pile ice-cold water, all my fantasy and fun to develop web Flash gone…… a real set back to a non-programmer-background Flash user, ME.
Although Flash CS3 still allow us to use AS2 to continue develop our works, BUT, if I’m not learning AS3, I can see that I will not be able to chase the future Flash development anymore. I guess i have to forget my sadness and try hard to learn AS3 from basic, very hard, i hope…… at least to make a simple clickable button……
Now I’m really miss my ex-Australian colleague, he is my mentor of Actionscript, teach me and guided me to understand the programming world (thanks Corey 😉), now I have no idea who should I speak to if i’m stuck in programing (although i’m not a programmer…)…
A true reality we need to face in IT, if you are not chasing, learning, following the new tech, you will be dump behind sooner or later, and the margin is growing rapidly…… rest in peace…..
Wish myself good luck, gambateh…….
